EXPLORING ENERGY IDEAS with members of North Quabbin Energy
Members of North Quabbin Energy will offer a short workshop that will let participants explore a number of ideas relating to energy use and conservation. The workshop will begin with a short overview and discussion that will help us to "find our place on the energy continuum." Then there will be three break-out sessions, focusing on (1) simple conservation strategies that anyone can do now, (2) making interior thermal window inserts to help weatherize your home this winter, and (3) the basics of solar power. These sessions are designed to offer practical information and ideas for people who are just beginning to re-think their energy use as well as those who have already begun changing their consumption patterns. There will be time to ask questions, to learn about other resources and opportunities, and to think about how working together as a community can help us face our current energy challenges.
Formed in 2005, North Quabbin Energy is an informal group of people concerned about issues relating to energy use. We seek to educate ourselves and our neighbors about the true social and environmental costs of our current energy consumption patterns. We also work to find ways of changing our individual and collective habits of energy use through conservation, use of renewable fuels, and support for local and regional enterprises that reduce our dependence on imported resources. The group has hosted two energy expos, featuring "green" vendors and educational speakers.
