Long-Range Plan
The mission of the Woods Memorial Library is to offer educational, research, and popular materials in a friendly, professional, and welcoming environment to patrons of all ages. The Library extends to the community access to a wide range of cultural and educational programs and serves as a repository for local history, unique materials, and exhibits. To support this mission, the following goals constitute the long-range plan*:
Formal Learning Support
- Improve and expand the Children's fiction and nonfiction collection to support the curriculum of the K-6 Ruggles Lane School.
- Increase library usage by the student-aged population through cooperation of the schools and the Library.
- Support the mission of the Quabbin Regional School District by encouraging cultural and community service opportunities in the Library for students.
- Improve communication between parents of students and the Library.
- Support the home-schooling community.
Lifelong Learning
- Increase community outreach and educational and/or recreational programming by tapping into local talent and establishing relationships with area institutions.
- Encourage utilization of Library facility as a cultural venue.
- By end of 2010, creat pool of volunteers from Senior Center and the Quabbin High School which will deliver specified books to housebound individuals.
- Utilize local institutions and annual events to outreach to the community.
- The Library will encourage lifelong reading for children and young adults by building positive relationships with books.
Local History and Genealogy
- The Library will research, organize, and make available local historical records, information, and images for public access and use.
- The Library will investigate digitizing the local history collection, making it more accenssible to the public.
